MC1448379 announces that the public preview of the memberOf rule operator ends. The operator is retired on November 3, 2026 for dynamic membership groups, dynamic administrative units and entitlement management auto-assignment policies.

October 6, 2026

MC1488839 extends support for existing memberOf configurations through March 31, 2027 for organizations with Microsoft Entra ID Governance. It is a targeted migration extension, not a change to the retirement announced for other customers.

November 3, 2026

The memberOf rule operator is retired. Tenants without the extension: rules that rely on it are no longer processed, so memberships stay in their last known state. Rebuild them with supported properties or switch to assigned membership beforehand.

Late 2026 (targeted)

Microsoft plans a replacement memberOf capability on a new architecture as part of Entra ID Governance, with migration guidance at launch. No exact date has been announced, the position on the timeline is approximate.

March 31, 2027

End of the extension for Entra ID Governance tenants. Configurations that still use the memberOf operator are migrated automatically to the replacement capability.
